0711 Venturers Self–intros

Twelve Venturers were selected from the Assessment Weekend held last November. Let's find out what they want us to know about themselves.

CHAN Kai–san, Alvin

Hello all! My name is Chan Kai San and you can call me Alvin, I am currently a year three student at City University of Hong Kong (City U) majoring in Electronic and Communication Engineering. I heard about Raleigh in the briefing session by Toby and Mandy at CityU and after they had shared about their meaningful and exciting experience, I decided to join Raleigh without hesitation. For my expedition, I would like to go to Costa Rica and Nicaragua as both locations are very attractive to me. I wish I can go to expedition as soon as possibile or maybe within two year. My favourite sports are cycling and badaminton, come and join me if you want.

Hello everyone ~ I am Kim. I am a university student studying in finance. I am very proud that I passed the 0711 Raleigh Assessment Weekend. I am wondering why I joined the Weekend immediately right after I had heard it from my professor. After passing the Weekend, I gain a chance to go for oversea expedition. For me, I deeply want to go to Costa Rica or Africa . However, I have a post in student union of my university with extremely high work load. This makes me plan to go for my expedition after graduation.

 

CHOI Wing–yan, Ines

Hi~ everybody, I am Ines Choi, Wing Yan and I am studying at City University of Hong Kong. I learnt about Raleigh through my friend and an email from the university. After joining its assessment weekend and becoming one of the Raleighians, I have deeper learning about the organisation. I join it as I would like to go and carry out voluntary work at developing countries to help people improve their living environment, even though I have not yet decided which expedition country to go. I hope I could go to expedition after my graduation. As I love traveling, it is a good life–time experience to understand more about the lives of people in another “world” and to travel to places that probably would not be destinations in most of our vocation plans.

我 是 Hobby 。我 的 朋 友 都 是 這 樣 稱 呼 我。我 很 高 興 認 識 了 雷 利 這 個 機 構。因 為 雷 利 所 作 的 東 西 簡 直 是 我 夢 寐 以 求 了 很 久 的。我 好 高 興 我 在 甄 選 營 被 選 中。其 實 很 久 前 也 聽 過 雷 利 ，不 過 當 時 是 聽 到 它 的 一 些 活 動 而 不 是 組 織 本 身。我 的 同 學 先 加 入 了 雷 利 ，之 後 問 我 有 沒 有 興 趣，我 的 反 應 是 第 一 時 間 決 定 參 加，因 為 這 個 簡 直 是 我 的 夢 想，我 很 喜 愛 冒 險 和 幫 人，又 喜 歡 生 物，真 係 一 次 過 實 現 了 三 個 願 望 ！ 我 好 認 同 雷 利 的 宗 旨，我 一 直 覺 得 我 的 人 生 不 可 那 麼 平 坦，需 要 為 這 個 世 界 做 更 多 的 事。所 以 同 雷 利 的 相 遇 我 真 的 希 望 可 以 從 中 找 到 真 正 的 自 己，不 想 和 很 多 一 般 人 一 樣 過 著 日 復 一 日 的 物 質 生 活。我 打 算 今 年 10 月 去 印 度 既 旅 程 ，希 望 可 以 幫 到 他 們，因 為 我 知 道 印 度 的 窮 富 懸 殊 很 嚴 重，還 有 我 很 想 快 些 去 看 一 看 和 為 他 們 略 盡 棉 力。我 很 喜 歡 冒 險 ( adventure ) ，不 過 這 在 各 人 心 中 的 定 義 也 不 同，我 覺 得 人 生 什 麼 時 侯 也 是 冒 險，這 是 男 人 的 浪 漫 ！ 另 外 我 最 近 完 成 了 運 動 攀 登 的 課 程，不 知 有 沒 有 人 有 對 這 活 動 也 有 興 趣 呢 ?

Hi ，很 高 興 成 為 雷 利 人 的 一 份 子。我 是 透 過 學 校 認 識 雷 利 的，感 覺 這 是 一 個 富 有 挑 戰 性 的 活 動，而 且 我 又 很 喜 歡 四 處 旅 行 和 攝 影，故 參 加 了 雷 利，希 望 在 其 中 得 到 不 同 的 體 驗。 11 月 通 過 Assessment Weekend ，到 現 在 只 是 3 個 月，但 已 認 識 了 一 班 很 熟 絡 的 朋 友 仔。大 家 都 期 待 去 expedition 的 那 一 天。暫 時 我 最 想 去 的 國 家 是 Costa Rica 與 Nicaragua 的 十 星 期 之 旅，不 知 道 我 這 個 弱 質 纖 纖 能 否 通 過 這 十 星 期 的 考 驗 呢 ? 大 家 都 要 加 油 向 目 標 進 發 啊 ！

 

 

LAW Hoi–ming, Vincent

Dear all Raleighian,

I am one of the newly selected 0711 Venturers Vincent Law, Hoi–ming, 22 years old. I am studying in City University of Hong Kong. My curriculum is Computer Engineering.

Why do I join Raleigh ? It is because of someone's recommendation. I was told that joining Raleigh would be a great opportunity for self–development since we will be involved in organizing many fund–raising events. Besides, I love to challenge myself. Participating in expedition would truly be a real challenge for me. If everything goes fine, I would go to Costa Rica & Nicaragua within two year.

Speaking of my favourite sports, I love playing basketball and football. Also, canoeing and swimming are my favorites when summer comes.

I like meeting friends. If you want to know more about me, let's play together in Raleigh .

TSANG Chun–kit, Tommy

I am Tsang Chun Kit. My friends always call me Tommy. I am a student studying in HKUST for my second year. I chose a horrible subject for my major which is Physics.

I am outgoing, humble and funny. I learnt about Raleigh from one of my friends. I have not decided where I will go for my expedition. I think it will probably be on the other side of the world. I like swimming and I am a one of the representatives of HKUST swimming team as well as a lifeguard. I like traveling and camping. And I just had a trip in Vancouver and Victoria. I camped in Pender Island and I almost died there coz it's too cold.

 

WONG Ka–wai, Michelle

I am Michelle Wong and I am studying Associate Degree at HKU SPACE. I was one of the volunteers in Wilson Challenge 2007, from the event I learnt more about Raleigh . It is my honor to join this big family, I do want to thank my entire group mate which helped me a lot in the Assessment Weekend.

Costa Rica & Nicaragua are places to fulfill my expedition dream because going to Central America is a rare chance. Apart from Raleigh , I am also a member of Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps. I like camping and reading as much as volunteering. If you want to share with me, feel free to contact me because I am very talkative… haha!

WONG Lai–yin, Alfred

I am 0711 <– " seven eleven ! " Alfred. I joined Raleigh international Hon g K o ng because I accidentally saw the recruitment email.

As I seldom check my school email and always miss the activities mention in the email, so it was very unusual opportunity. A fter seeing the expedition outline, I found that Raleigh matches much of the dream I had when I was much younger (is it Destiny?) , so I applied for Assessment Weekend quickly .

I really want to go to the desert for my expedition, but I know Raleigh no longer takes Venturers to Africa . (>.<)

I really hope that by the time I am ready to go to expedition in 2009, Namibia expedition will re–open to Ventuers. And I will be EXTREMELY happy.

WU Chun–man, Edmond

I am Edmond Wu. I am in fact graduated from HKUST more than one year ago and currently working in an environmental consultancy firm as an environment consultant. Many of you may not know much about what an environmental constant does since there are not many people and company working in this field. I knew Raleigh from one of my friend and its website. I like traveling very much and I have been to several places in Asia and Australia . But I really want to travel outside this box ( Pacific Ocean ).
